Our Board Members

Dr. John Chang

Managing Director

John founded Auckland BioSciences in 2014 and serves as Managing Director, leading the company's strategic direction and international growth. He brings over 30 years of experience in the life sciences sector, with a career spanning laboratory research, technology commercialisation, and executive leadership across New Zealand and Australia. Prior to founding Auckland BioSciences, he managed a $120 million regional investment fund through Development West Coast, and has held senior roles at the University of Canterbury and Westmead Hospital. John holds a PhD from the University of Sydney School of Medicine and is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management.

Suzana Chang

Director

Suzana co-founded Auckland BioSciences in 2014 alongside Managing Director Dr John Chang and serves as Executive Director, overseeing the company's finance and administration functions. Since the company's founding, Suzana has been central to building the financial, operational, and cultural infrastructure that has supported Auckland BioSciences' growth into an internationally recognised exporter. She holds a Master's degree in cultural and language differences in international business from the University of Canterbury, a foundation that has proved instrumental in establishing Auckland BioSciences' relationships with customers across more than 17 international markets.

Gary Paykel

Chairman

Gary serves as Chairman of Auckland BioSciences, bringing to the role a distinguished career in New Zealand business leadership. Gary rose through the management ranks of Fisher & Paykel, culminating in his appointment as Managing Director and Chief Executive from 1987 to 2001. He subsequently served as Executive Chairman of Fisher & Paykel Appliances Holdings and Chairman of Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Corporation, giving him broad governance experience across both manufacturing and life sciences sectors. In recognition of his services to business and the community, Gary was awarded the Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2001.

Bill Lee

Board Member

Bill serves as a Director of Auckland BioSciences, bringing extensive governance and entrepreneurial experience across a broad range of New Zealand businesses. A Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors, Bill has held governance and leadership roles spanning start-ups through to mature organisations, with experience in change management, technology commercialisation, strategic planning, and international business. He is also Chairman for Nexbe, HT Systems, Science Alive!, warmth.nz and DARC Technologies. Bill holds a Master of Agricultural Science and Business Management from the University of Canterbury.

Vaughan Darby

Board Member

Vaughan serves as a Director of Auckland BioSciences, bringing more than 20 years of investment and management experience across a diverse range of New Zealand industries. His background spans telecommunications, technology, property, and business services sectors. Vaughan currently serves as Chairman of Flow Coffee, a technology company supplying telemetry solutions to café operators worldwide, and Chairman of Sustainable Property. He is also a Director of Smartworks Business Solutions Ltd.

Daniel Maxwell

Group General Manager

Daniel has been with Auckland BioSciences since its early days in 2014 and has been integral to Auckland BioSciences’ growth. He is responsible for Auckland BioSciences’ overall group performance. Daniel holds a Masters in Engineering Management and a Bachelors in Music and Physics from the University of Canterbury. Daniel is a director of MonteSera S.A., our South American subsidiary.

Joshua Chang

Group General Manager

Joshua joined Auckland BioSciences in 2017 and leads our New Zealand business and global key accounts. Joshua previously worked in Corporate Finance at KPMG and in fintech with Equitise. Joshua holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Commerce, with First Class Honours in Finance from the University of Auckland. Joshua is a director of MonteSera S.A., our South American subsidiary.

Jeremy Hitchings

Group Head of Operations

Jeremy leads the Group Operations and serves a dual role as General Manager of our Southern American subsidiary MonteSera. He has been with Auckland BioSciences since the very early days and led the design and construction of our cleanroom facility in New Zealand and our new state-of-the-art facility in South America. Jeremy holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) from the University of Auckland.

Jonathan Chang

Group Head of Commercial

Jonathan leads Auckland BioSciences’ Australian subsidiary CellSera and is our Head of Commercial playing a key role in our USA, Europe and Australian markets. Jonathan is a qualified medical doctor who was a Registrar in New Zealand public hospitals before he left that role to join us at Auckland BioSciences. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Auckland.

Joyce Wang

Group Financial Controller

Joyce oversees financial management across the group, bringing a sharp and disciplined approach honed under some of the most demanding mentors in the profession. Her resilience and dedication have seen her excel into one of Auckland BioScience’s most critical roles. Joyce is a Chartered Accountant registered with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ), and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Auckland.

Jasmine Carrigan

Head of Operation & Quality

Jasmine manages day-to-day operations across the company's New Zealand production sites. In this role, she is responsible for maintaining regulatory compliance, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring the rigorous quality systems that underpin Auckland BioSciences' reputation as a trusted supplier to pharmaceutical and research customers worldwide.

Harlan Wang

IT & Systems Manager

Harlan is responsible for Auckland BioSciences' digital infrastructure and core business systems across the group's international operations, bringing a solutions-driven approach to managing complex technology environments. Harlan specialises in enterprise systems and digital process automation, supporting the company's growth through technology solutions. Harlan holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Auckland.

Davy Hsu

Group Quality & Compliance Manager

Davy brings over 20 years of experience in quality assurance and regulatory compliance across the food, nutraceutical and life sciences sectors. He is responsible for developing and maintaining the compliance frameworks and quality systems that support Auckland BioSciences' operations across the group's international sites. Davy holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University of Auckland.
